IMC & Software Recommedations

Is there a software that you recommend for using with IMC to create maps? I understand that there are some questionable programs that could cause legal issues, so I'm wondering what everyone is using and would love to hear some feedback from the community and/or support staff.

Maybe I'm in the wrong area with this topic?  :-)
